Kaka‘ako is a 600 acre district that includes much of the prime Honolulu real estate down to the ocean. The Kaka’ako District was established by the State of Hawaii to “invigorate and establish a dynamic urban neighborhood.” Beginning with a power point overview, this is mainly a driving tour within Kaka‘ako where there are many residential projects from the high end to affordable including Hawaii’s first loft project. The goal of the project is to create an exciting and vibrant waterfront community, mixing residential, retail and public uses. Visionaries would like this community to embody all the elements of ‘live, work, and play’ while, at the same time creating a Hawaiian sense of place, based on local values, history and a combined heritage.
